Another healthcare project designed and managed by Paul, this 12 bed inpatient Learning Disabilities Unit was the winner of a Health Services Journal Award as well as a commendation at the Building Better Healthcare awards.

The building is designed to provide private en suite rooms that maximise the relationship with nature whilst proving a series of secure outdoor spaces.

The design promotes use of natural light and ventilation to the fullest, including incorporating light & ventilation chimneys to each bedroom and clerestory glazing to communal spaces. Areas of coloured glazing have been incorporated into external windows of communal areas and specially commissioned artwork included to walls in key internal locations.

The Trust has expressed great pride in the completed scheme: The unit’s services manager personally communicated his ‘big thanks’ in recognition of the importance of the architectural contribution towards the success of the building.

The licensing Care Quality Commission inspector described the building as ‘the best of its type they had ever seen.’
